Orchard to Table

Fifth Grade classroom lesson available upon request Volunteers or extension educators will provide a 30-minute interactive classroom lesson for fifth grade classes, focusing on New York agricultural products and food systems careers through role-playing different occupations throughout the food system of an apple. Lessons to extend learning concepts will be provided to participating teachers, as well as suggestions for additional resources. Concepts covered address NYS Learning Standards and benchmarks from the Food & Fiber Systems Literacy Framework. The first 300 classrooms to participate in the classroom program will be provided additional free educational materials from the New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Agricultural Education. The New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Agricultural Education is sponsoring this agricultural awareness initiative in partnership with New York Agriculture in the Classroom. Funding was provided through proceeds from the Indirect Vitamins Purchasers Antitrust Litigation Settlement administered by New York State's Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer. The Foundation's mission is to provide New Yorkers with factual insight about agriculture so they will make informed choices and decisions.

Contact Sandie Prokop, Director of the New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Agricultural Education, for information about the activity books or scheduling a classroom program. Sandie can be reached at 518.431.5633 or 1.800.342.4143, or at sprokop@nyfb.org.
